About

Established in 2012, Second Chance Center, Inc. (SCC) is a Colorado based nonprofit organization determined to be the state’s premier community re-entry program and a model for the nation. SCC offers case management, mentoring, and vital resources to assist formerly incarcerated individuals in reestablishing their lives and becoming successful members of the community.

The cycle of criminal behavior is difficult to break and often involves a comprehensive approach to address a host of issues, including but not limited to substance abuse, violence, trauma and socioeconomic factors.

Our clients are often unaware of the impact these factors have had on the course of their lives and their ability to actively choose a better path, which is why we mentor our clients to wisely navigate their unique needs and circumstances and help them make the most of their second chance.

Led by the resolute vision of Founder, Hassan A. Latif, our team of caring professionals offer education, assistance, support, and resources to the formerly incarcerated. SCC is transforming lives as they lower recidivism* and positively impact the community.

"In the end, we only regret the chances we didn't take, the relationships we were afraid to have, and the decisions we waited to long to make."

- Lewis Carroll

KHALIL HALIM
Executive Director

Khalil A.Halim, is an ex Army veteran who has dedicated his life to service. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Systems Management, and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Khalil was Deputy Director at It Takes a Village before coming to SCC. His tenure at It Takes a Village lasted for 12 years.

During these years, Khalil served on the Mayor’s Office of HIV Resources Planning Council (Denver), served as Chair of Priorities Setting and Allocation Committee, was appointed by the Governor to Colorado HIV/AIDS Prevention Program (CHAPP) Grant Review Committee, implemented and oversaw one of Aurora’s Homeless Prevention and Rapid Rehousing Project (HPRP) as well provided one on one counseling and group level intervention counseling at It Takes a Village.

Khalil, who also sat as a founding member on Second Chance Center’s Board of Directors for 7 years, has stepped into the role as Second Chance Center's Executive Director. Somehow he still finds the time to earn an iconic urban name in the DJ game.

What most wouldn’t know about is the critically important mentorship and guidance he provided to a man desperately looking for the transitional answers to some troubling lifelong questions. Listening intently, and watching his example, was key to SCC’s Founder getting his own second chance at life.
